Do you want to be a flight attendant?

Do you want to be a flight attendant? If the answer is YES then continue reading..

Did you know I went to two failed airline interviews before I landed my dream job with Emirates Airline? You can read about all the interviews here, here, here, and here. I list some really helpful do’s and don’ts that I picked up on. I did a ton of research – and had a few of my own personal trials and errors.

My best friend in this entire job-hunting process was not a person – but a website! This will be YOUR best friend too. This website updates DAILY.  It lists most commercial/private airlines and when they might be hiring. It also will tell you any open-house interviews they might be conducting in a town near you! This website definitely deserves all the credit , click “latest job openings” to see current postings. This website informed me when Emirates had an open house interview in San Francisco!

If anyone ever asks me tips for becoming a flight attendant, this website is the first thing I give them!

I already highlighted tips of how to prepare for an interview here so I wont go over that again.

Flying has it all.. excitement, satisfaction, exhaustion, thrills, homesickness, new adventures, wonder, defining moments. The good and the bad combined, it was an experience I am so lucky to have had.

Good luck!

BRB, making dragons

Hey! I’m still alive.

and making bread .

In case you were worried.

Who is watching the game of thrones finale on Sunday?! Spoiler alert! One of khaleesi’s dragons turns into bread !

Just kidding’

Anyways, I have two trips planned this year , one of them is on Emirates (the airline I used to fly for). It will be fun to see how they are doing and what changes have happened since I last flew 3 years ago. Can’t wait!

Well, signing off . Hopefully it doesn’t take me another year to check back in . Hehe!

(It is 1am and I have 7 more hours left of work.. joy)

See ya, economy

I had my final flight as a working grade 2 in economy today.

Mixed emotions, so excited to be done but it feels weird because I still need to do my training for business class. So it doesn’t feel any different.

But man, almost 3 years as a grade 2! That is a loooooooong relationship .

I won’t miss you, clearance carts or we care with endless rounds of drinks.

Ha!

I tried to take a festive confetti picture of my last flight. It failed, but the pictures still make me laugh.

Moscow

Moscow,Russia

Moscow is the capital city and the most populous federal subject of Russia.

Moscow was my very first layover I ever did.

It was my 2nd SUPY flight (where I wasn’t actually operating as an actual flight attendant, it was more for me to observe). And I was in awe of everything.

IMGP1645

Shaina, my batchmate for the past 7 week training course, and fellow SUPY !

I just remember how I couldn’t believe I was visiting Russia. It seemed so foreign, a place I never would have actually visited had I not joined Emirates. It reminded me of snow and fur hats and thick accents.

Some of the other crew members. It was some serious cold, I think I remember it being -7 degrees Celsius.

Needless to say it was an amazing layover filled with seeing the Red Square, eating borsch, and lots of snow.

IMGP1634

One of the perks of being a SUPY is the fact that you get to sit in the cockpit during take off and landing.

And leaving Russia was exciting. So much snow. We got to see planes having to go through the process of being de-iced. It was a pretty neat experience.

IMGP1721

Look at all that snow.

IMGP1720

de-icing! Trucks would come alongside the planes and spray it with fumes.

  I went again to Moscow, a year later (almost to the day!). It was crazy to think of all the places I had been to within those two flights.

A year later, and she’s just as pretty.

Me time

Whenever I have a layover, I always need at least one other person to hang out with. I hate being by myself. So I figure out who I like the most during the flight, and make plans to do something with them.
Well, turned out this past flight to LA was one of those rare flights where I was left to do something all by myself.
Me, myself, and I.
…And it was fun.
Had some in-n-out, read a book on the beach, and rented a car for the first time.

I followed my dreams.

I didn’t think I would ever achieve them, btu I kept at it.

And now I am working for one of the best (if not THE best) airlines in the world.

As a flight attendant.

And I am in love with it.

Words of the Cabin Crew

A friend sent me this article, and I said “YES!”

We love our passengers, but sometimes we have a few who we wish were a little more considerate.

10 Things Flight Attendants Wish They Could Say But Can’t

1.“Your shoes are so cute, but they would smell better on your feet.”

2.“We love your child, but would appreciate if he didn’t use the flight-attendant call button to compose the next great symphony.”

3.“You know, you do have the opportunity to select your seat in advance.”

4.“We know our comfy leather seats and individual TVs make you feel like you’re on your couch, but we have some great hotel partners for those more intimate moments with your loved one.”

5.“Why are you asking me that now?”
{
It might be a request for a drink two minutes before takeoff or for the vegetarian option during meal service, but attendants get frustrated when passengers have bad timing or resist planning ahead.}

6. “You can’t fit a 10-pound bologna in a 5-pound bag. Let me gate-check that for you.”
{It never fails: Someone’s always trying to slip a little more luggage onto the plane.}

7.“What was it like being raised by wolves?”
{Your parents always taught you to make requests with a “please” and respond with a “thank you.” But for some reason, too many passengers seem to check their manners at the gate.}

8. “Compassion goes a long way.”
{All too often, a childless passenger ends up seated next to a parent with an upset, fidgety baby on a fully booked airplane. When we hear, “Can’t somebody shut that kid up?” we often want to hand the child to the complainer and relocate the parent to first class with a tray full of drinks.}

9. “So you’re mad because someone’s asked you to do your job?”
{We admits that sometimes it’s our fellow flight attendants who frustrate us, returning in a huff to the galley to complain about having to serve someone yet another Coke.}

10. “I’ll be right back.”
{OK, this one is really spoken out loud. But this is a flight attendant code phrase for something a little more, let’s say, expressive — usually in response to an overly demanding, absurd or downright rude passenger request.}

Soooo great.

And so true.
