Guten Morgen! German for Good morning. Which it technically is, since its 2am and I have just arrived back to my little apartment in Dubai. And from the great place of Germany itself!
I love roomie trips!
Kimmy and I decided on Germany because they have a certain castle that was the inspiration of a certain Disney icon: Sleeping Beauty’s Castle!
Our original plan was to take a train and bus to get to Füssen, which is near our Neuschwanstein Castle location. But that changed quickly once we re-realized that we could rent a car.
The perfect decision.
Besides it costing an arm and a leg, it was so easy, and we were free to roam the German countryside! And the fact that I can now say I drove on the autobahn is pretty cool.
Us girls were a little overwhelmed with how freakin gorgeous it was here in Spring time.
We happily stayed two nights in a little hotel (Hotel Müller in Hohenschwangau, which is the town directly under the Castle). Best decision. We had the gorgeous Lake Alpsee as a view, as well as the famous Sleeping Beauty (Neuschwanstein) Castle on one side of the mountain, and the other often overlooked Hohenschwangau Castle to our other side.
(If you zoom in on the lake pictured below, you can see the yellow castle to the left ; Hohenschwangau, and Neuschwanstein as a very small castle up and to the right.)
Now the walk up to Neuschwanstein is very good exercise. Or you can spend some money and take a little horse drawn carriage. They go the same pace as the walkers, but you arrive not as tired. We chose to work off our nutella we had for breakfast. Heh.
And if you really want some amazing pictures, you have to hike even further to this bridge that overlooks the Castle. But what a view.
Thank you Germany, for treating us so well.
(But now I want a nice German boy to marry, so I can live here forever.)
